Ferdinand and Luise

Friedrich Schiller

Performance, two acts

Premiere – 16th September, 2021

Two lovers from the Sturm und Drang era meet today on the large stage of the National Theatre. They still face human law, public expectations and prejudices, ambivalence and fear. To cause turmoil and expose the hidden striving and real motivations. When the love burns as brightly as it has ever burned in the classic drama, no one is able to escape.

Dita Lūriņa and her peers continue to try to find the moment when all means of theatrical expression: language, music, sound, movement, dance, space, light, and a flight backstage come together to find quintessence and tell the story of human nature. This is chillingly constant. A man dressed in traditional clothing sings a historic song, while his true nature is shaped by his deeds. As we are still striving to reach the moment when Angels’ Bread is made the Bread of man today… Panis angelicus…
