The young playwright Justīne Kļava and director Toms Treinis offer to take a fresh and playful look at the canon of Latvian literature: The Latvians by Merķelis. Were the Latvians poor and oppressed drunkards? Or cunning cheats that tried to make the great Merķelis, who at that time was just an idealistic Baltic German youth, take pity on them?
